When silence replaces tears

For years, I thought my husband, Julien , was incapable of expressing his emotions. Reserved, discreet, almost impassive. When our teenage son suddenly left us, I was overcome with immense grief. I needed to cry, to talk, sometimes even to scream. Julien, on the other hand, remained calm. Calm. Silent.
In the hospital, he remained isolated, motionless. During the farewell ceremony, his face betrayed nothing. Back home, which had become too large and empty, he retreated into his work and daily routine. I interpreted this behavior as a lack of sensitivity. And the more time passed, the more this misunderstanding between us grew.

A distance that develops silently
Pain, when not shared, creates chasms. I felt like I was carrying my sorrow alone, while Julien seemed to be moving on. Little by little, anger replaced sadness. We spoke less and less. The silences became thick, almost suffocating.
