In a quiet afternoon in March 2000, something unbelievable happened at the Reyes family home. A weak bark was heard outside the door. At first, Maria Reyes thought it was just a stray dog wandering through the neighborhood.
But when she opened the door, her heart almost stopped.
Standing there was a thin, aging Golden Retriever with gray streaks in his fur and tired eyes. Maria fell to her knees and whispered one word: “Max…”
It was him.
Nine years earlier, in 1991, Max had disappeared during a hiking trip in the Cordillera Mountains. Maria’s brother Daniel Reyes and their friends Anna Cruz and Miguel Santos had gone missing on that same trip. Despite searches and investigations, no one ever found them.
And Max was gone too.
