Homemade Sloppy Joes are a classic comfort food that’s perfect for a casual weeknight meal. This recipe features a flavorful, tangy sauce and juicy ground beef, all served on toasted Texas toast.
Ingredients:
Ingredient Quantity
Ground beef 1 pound
Chopped green bell pepper ¼ cup
Chopped onion ½ cup
Water ½ cup
Ketchup 1 cup
Worcestershire sauce 2 teaspoons
Brown sugar 1 tablespoon
Garlic powder ½ teaspoon
Yellow mustard 1 teaspoon
White American cheese 3 slices
Texas toast bread 6 slices
Instructions:
Cook the ground beef and vegetables: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. As the beef cooks, use a spatula to break it up into crumbles. Add the chopped green bell pepper and onion to the skillet and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, until the vegetables are softened. Drain any excess fat.
Make the Sloppy Joe sauce: Once the ground beef and vegetables are cooked, stir in the water, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and yellow mustard. Mix everything together until the sauce is well combined with the beef mixture.
Simmer the Sloppy Joes: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken and develop a rich flavor during this time.
