What is tartar?
Tartar is the result of the calcification of dental plaque, a thin film composed of bacteria and food debris. When this plaque is not properly removed with daily brushing, it hardens and becomes tartar. Unlike plaque, tartar does not disappear with simple brushing: it accumulates and becomes an open door to other complications.

Why do some people develop more tartar?
Certain conditions favor tartar formation:
