Begin treatment in the ambulance.
Perform an ECG on site.
Notify the hospital so they can prepare.
The first 90 minutes after the onset of symptoms represent the critical window of opportunity to save the heart muscle.
Who is at risk?
Although anyone can have a heart attack, the risk increases with:
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Diabetes
Smoking
Obesity
A family history of heart disease
Age (men over 45, women over 55)
But young people are not immune either—especially given the rising rates of obesity and stress.
