If your cat wants to sleep in your bed, the reason might surprise you

Because no, it's neither a coincidence nor a feline whim: if your cat chooses your bed – and sometimes your place – it's because something very specific is at stake, at the heart of your relationship with your cat.

A carefully chosen location, never at random

Contrary to popular belief, cats do not settle anywhere to sleep. Their instinct is to select places that meet several essential criteria: safety, calm, warmth and familiarity. If your bed ticks all the boxes, it's above all because it's associated with you.

Sleeping is a moment of vulnerability. By choosing your bed, your cat shows that they feel protected in your environment, confident enough to let their guard down.

You are his or her safety reference point

Even if they are known to be independent, cats are very attentive to their surroundings. When a cat sleeps near you – or in your place – it is a clear indication that you are a reassuring cue. Your presence gives him a sense of stability, especially at night when everything is quieter.

It is also a way for him to place himself in an area that he considers strategic: comfortable, slightly elevated and impregnated with your presence.

Your smell soothes her more than you think

Cats have a very developed sense of smell. Your smell, present on the sheets, pillows and duvet, acts as a real reassuring cue. She reminds him that he is "at home", in a familiar and safe environment.

That's why he often chooses your precise place, rather than a corner of the bed taken at random.

Heat: an unstoppable argument

It is impossible to talk about feline behavior without mentioning their attraction to heat. Your body gives off a constant temperature, ideal for a cat looking to save energy. At night, when the house cools down, your bed becomes a real thermal cocoon.

Pillows, blankets and mattresses have everything a cat is looking for for long sleep phases.
