Sophia froze.
She confessed.
“Yes, absolutely.”
The detective pulled the transcript out of the briefcase.
Below are excerpts from her testimony. I quote: “I wanted this woman to disappear from my son’s life. She doesn’t deserve him. I thought that if she got sick, he would see how weak she was and leave her. I didn’t want to kill her. I just wanted to make her defenseless. I didn’t know thallium was so dangerous.”
There was silence in the office.
Sophia looked at her husband.
His face was gray.
His lips were trembling.
“It’s true,” he whispered.
“That’s true”.
“Yes,” the detective nodded.
“Your mother attempted to kill you. The case will go to court.”
Alex covered his face with his hands.
His shoulders began to tremble.
He cried.
Sophia looked at him, unsure what to feel.
