Don’t be fooled into thinking that just because it’s a “natural” product like vinegar or lime, it’s healthier for your teeth compared to hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide offers something different from natural methods, as it whitens your teeth rather than removing stains.
Any product used incorrectly on teeth, whether natural or not, can cause irreparable damage. Therefore, you must always take the appropriate precautions. Which brings us to the next question…
Is natural teeth whitening safer than professional whitening?
Natural teeth whitening produces a different result than professional whitening, as the latter uses hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth.
Teeth whitening is safe if done correctly by a qualified dental professional.
It is better to have your teeth whitened properly by a dental health professional than to do it incorrectly using a natural method or a home whitening kit.
Some teeth whitening products that can be purchased online or in stores also contain hydrogen peroxide. Legally, these products cannot contain more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide, which is far less than the 6% a dentist can dispense.
If you ingest hydrogen peroxide, it will be more harmful than consuming coconut oil. Therefore, most natural methods could be considered slightly safer than professional bleaching.
However, professional or at-home bleaching with a kit is perfectly safe if done correctly.
Can I try to whiten my teeth if I haven’t had a recent visit to the dentist?
No, it’s not recommended.
If you have underlying problems with your teeth, such as tooth decay, applying an abrasive or acidic product to them can make things worse.
There’s nothing wrong with getting a dental checkup and asking your dentist about at-home teeth whitening.
