Apple Cider Vinegar for Hair – My Overnight Experience and Results

My Overnight Apple Cider Vinegar Hair Treatment

What I Used

  • Raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (with the “mother”)

  • Water

  • Spray bottle

  • Shower cap

  • Old towel (to protect my pillow)

Step 1 – Diluting the Vinegar

Because ACV is acidic, I diluted it with water in a 1:1 ratio. This makes it gentle enough for the scalp while remaining effective.

Step 2 – Applying to Hair and Scalp

I sprayed the mixture evenly from roots to ends, then gently massaged my scalp to help with absorption and circulation.

Step 3 – Leaving It Overnight

After covering my hair with a shower cap, I went to sleep and let the treatment work overnight.

The Next Morning: What Happened

The Next Morning: What Happened

When I woke up, there was only a faint vinegar smell. My hair wasn’t sticky or greasy. After rinsing with lukewarm water and washing with a mild shampoo, I noticed immediate results:

  • My hair felt softer, smoother, and shinier

  • Frizz was noticeably reduced

  • My scalp felt clean, calm, and itch-free

Key Benefits I Noticed

  • Shine Boost: ACV smoothed the hair cuticle, creating reflective shine

  • Scalp Relief: Less itchiness and dryness

  • Buildup Removal: Hair felt lighter and refreshed

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Always dilute apple cider vinegar before applying

  • Do a patch test if you have sensitive skin

  • Don’t overuse—1–2 times per week is enough

  • Follow with a conditioner or hair mask to restore moisture

Is Apple Cider Vinegar Better Than Other Hair Treatments?

ACV isn’t meant to replace deep conditioners or oil masks. Instead, it works best as a clarifying and shine-enhancing treatment. If you’re looking for a natural, budget-friendly way to refresh your hair routine, ACV is an excellent addition.
