If your veins are visible, here’s what it means

Hard or twisted veins

Thick or rope-like veins can sometimes be a sign of varicose veins or venous inflammation.

  • Skin changes around the veins

Darker skin, persistent itching or irritation around the veins may be related to a circulatory disorder.

  • Appearance on the chest or abdomen

Highly visible veins in these areas are rarer and generally warrant medical attention to understand the cause.

When to consult a healthcare professional

It may be helpful to seek advice if:

  • veins suddenly appear
  • they are painful or sensitive
  • you notice swelling in the legs
  • or if their appearance worries you

A healthcare professional can check your blood circulation and reassure you if everything is normal.
