One such image is that of a small blond boy posing serenely with his dog. Years later, this boy would become one of the most infamous criminals in American history: Jeffrey Dahmer.

How could a seemingly ordinary child descend such a dark path? Dahmer’s story remains a mystery to psychologists, criminologists, and historians to this day.

A childhood that seemed normal

Jeffrey Dahmer was born in Milwaukee in May 1960. At first glance, nothing distinguished his family from others. His father studied chemistry, and his mother worked in engineering. Their son appeared healthy and curious about the world around him.

In his youth, according to many accounts, the boy was full of energy and, at times, even joy. Photos from that period show the boy with a discreet smile, surrounded by his family.

However, behind this apparent normality lies an increasingly unstable family atmosphere. Tensions between the parents increase, and the atmosphere in the home becomes fragile.

Some relatives also say they have noticed a change in the boy’s behavior after a medical procedure he underwent in early childhood: he becomes quieter, more reserved and often appears withdrawn.

Isolation that gradually appears

As he aged, Dahmer became increasingly reclusive. Teachers described him as a quiet student, sometimes mentally withdrawn, who rarely engaged in social activities.

The family situation isn’t helping. Arguments between the parents are becoming more frequent, and the emotional climate is worsening. The father’s absence and the mother’s personal problems deepen the feeling of instability.

Still, some classmates remember the teenager with a sense of humor and moments of sociability. However, these moments remain sporadic.
