This product makes the laundry ten times whiter: it is still used in dry cleaners

Why do your white clothes turn yellow?

Before we try to fix the problem, it’s helpful to understand why this happens. Yellowing of white clothing is a common phenomenon, often caused by:

Storage in a damp or poorly ventilated place, conducive to the oxidation of the fibers.
Sweat or sebum residue that accumulates in fabrics (especially on pillows, sheets or clothes worn next to the skin).
Cosmetic products (moisturisers, body oils, etc.) that come into contact with the fibres before being well absorbed.
Unsuitable or poorly dosed detergents, or even the excessive use of fabric softeners that leave a film that is difficult to remove.

And contrary to what you might think, bleach is not always the best solution
Should you use bleach?

It’s tempting, but be careful: while bleach can give an immediate “radiance” effect, it weakens the fabrics over time and can… accentuate yellowing! It is not recommended for synthetic fibres, such as acrylic, and is only really suitable for 100% natural textiles (cotton or linen).

Fortunately, a natural alternative exists – gentler, safer, and quite effective.

The magic duo: coarse salt + baking soda

This simple blend is the well-kept secret of many laundromats and traditional homes. Why does it work?

Coarse salt acts as a natural stain remover, while reviving tarnished fibers.
Baking soda neutralizes odors, absorbs moisture and helps dislodge residue stuck in the fibers.

How to use it?

It’s child’s play:

Prepare your mixture: In a small bowl, mix two tablespoons of coarse salt with two tablespoons of baking soda.
Pour this mixture directly into the drum of your washing machine, along with your white cloth.
Add your usual detergent, then run a normal cycle (at 40°C or higher if the fabric allows it).
Repeat
