I was never what he wanted.
He pretended not to mind, but really, he only cared about my family’s money.
The priest began to recite his memorized lines.
The guests nodded and smiled; some were already wiping away tears.
The lie hung in the air so thickly that I almost ran out of breath.
And at that moment the groom leaned over and whispered directly into my ear:
“Your family is bankrupt. I don’t need you anymore.”
He said calmly.
Confident.
He expected me to break down – to start crying and run away in shame in front of everyone.
He waited until the last moment to humiliate me and my family in front of everyone.
But I didn’t cry.
I looked at him.
And I smiled.
I saw him tense up – this wasn’t part of his plan.
I stood aside, took the microphone from the groom, and spoke loudly so everyone could hear.
My words shocked the room
“I always knew you married me for the money, and I was waiting for the moment when you would finally show your true colors.”
I have wonderful news for you. My father did not go bankrupt.
