Although hilarious, this appearance was anachronistic, as Colonel Sanders was not born until 1890 and KFC did not come into existence until 1952. Given that Little House on the Prairie is set in the 1870s and 1880s, the presence of the Colonel is a comical, but glaring, error.
To top it off, rumor has it that the fried chicken served in the series often came directly from KFC.
The mystery of the missing coats
In the Christmas episode "God Bless All Children," Laura's baby is kidnapped in the freezing cold of Minneapolis during the holidays. Strangely, the characters walk around without coats and without appearing to suffer from the cold, despite the notoriously low December temperatures in the city.
This oversight is probably explained by the fact that the series was filmed in Tucson, Arizona, during the summer. The scorching heat of the set was incompatible with the need for realism linked to the cold.
Caroline's twentieth-century bra
The most attentive viewers noticed a particularly amusing sartorial detail: Caroline Ingalls' bra can be seen furtively. The story takes place in the 1870s and 1880s, but bras were only invented in 1912, which is a funny anachronism.
Similarly, many women's hairstyles, with their perms and curls, are more reminiscent of the 1970s than the nineteenth century. And while most men sport clean-shaven faces, historical records reveal that beards were very much in vogue at that time.
A mannequin: a crucial moment
In the Season 5 episode "The Odyssey," an intense scene shows an assailant trying to throw Albert off a moving train. Laura heroically saves him, but the most observant fans have noticed a strange detail: a dummy was used in Albert's place during the fight, and his lifeless body landed unnaturally on the grass. Meanwhile, a stuntman was rolling down the hill spectacularly moments later, creating an unintentionally hilarious visual contrast.
Pranks Galore: The Frogs by Michael Landon
Michael Landon, the star and producer of the series, was known for his playful character and his many pranks on set. According to Rachel Greenbush, who played Carrie Ingalls, Landon loved to surprise the team members with frogs.
After catching frogs during breaks, Landon would put them in his mouth and approach the unsuspecting team members. He would then open his mouth, releasing the frogs that jumped and scared everyone away. This mischievous humour brought a touch of lightness to the long days of filming.
