Don’t be afraid of the orchid dying, growing it in a plastic bottle will have many new flowers
Step 3: Creating a Recycled Plastic Bottle Pot
Instead of purchasing a new pot, consider recycling a large discarded plastic bottle into a stylish and functional orchid planter. This sustainable method not only helps reduce waste but also provides a unique and creative way to grow your orchid.
Take a plastic bottle and use a marker to draw a design on it. If you love cats, you can sketch a simple cat face for added charm.
Using a welding torch or a sharp knife, carefully cut the bottle along the drawn lines to create the shape of your desired planter.
Paint the bottle with your favorite colors and let it dry completely.
Make drainage holes on the sides but not at the bottom. This design helps maintain moisture levels, allowing the orchid to thrive with less frequent watering.
Step 4: Repotting the Orchid
Once the orchid has dried for a day, it is time to replant it in the newly created pot. Use charcoal and pine bark as the primary substrate, as these materials provide excellent aeration and moisture retention. Secure the orchid in place using wooden stakes and plant ties to prevent unnecessary movement.
For the first three days, keep the orchid in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight, to allow it to adjust to its new environment.
Step 5: Nourishing the Orchid with Natural Fertilizers
To promote faster recovery and stronger growth, you can use natural fertilizers made from rice water and aloe vera.
Using Rice Water:
Add three tablespoons of rice to 500 ml of water and let it soak for an hour.
Dilute the rice water with two liters of clean water.
Use this mixture every five days to water the orchid.
Rice water is rich in polyphenols, calcium, magnesium, and vitamins that help restore weak orchids, making the leaves greener and protecting the plant from fungal infections.
Using Aloe Vera Water:
Take one aloe vera leaf and blend it with 350 ml of water.
Strain out any residue and dilute the solution with two liters of water.
Use this aloe vera water once a week to support the plant’s recovery.
Aloe vera contains essential nutrients and growth stimulants that help orchids regain their strength, encouraging the development of healthy roots and leaves.
Step 6: Monitoring Growth and Blooming
With consistent care and nourishment, your orchid will begin to show signs of recovery. After two months, you will notice:
A healthier root system with new root growth.
Greener, stronger leaves with reduced wrinkles.
A new orchid spike forming, leading to beautiful and vibrant blooms.
As the orchid continues to grow, you can add more nutrients periodically and adjust its placement to ensure it receives the right amount of light and moisture.
